Annotation: A teen boy learns he must leave the reservation to attend an all white high school to make a better life for himself.

Summary: Junior was born on an Indian reservation in Washington state. He was not expected to live when he was born but did to live a life of a lot of teasing and ridicule by the people on the reservation. He opens textbook while in school and sees his mom's name on the front of it. After discovering his mother's name he realizes he must attend the all white high school, off the reservation to get a better education. He attends the high school, as the only Indian, except for the school mascot. He is an excellent student and becomes a basketball star on his all white team. His best friend on the reservation distances himself from Junior not understanding why he had to leave the reservation. Junior learns a lot about himself and a lot about his people.
