Summary: Teenager Lily Owens lives a life with her abusive father while she has the constant memory of the day her mother was killed. Lily is not raised without a mother, her black nanny, Rosaleen, becomes her mother figure. One day outspoken Rosaleen insults members of the town who are very racist. Lilly understands that these insults will lead to the lynching of Rosaleen and Lilly sees this as an opportunity for both of them to escape. They go to a town called Tiburon-seeing the name of the town on the back of picture Lily found in her mother’s things. Once they arrive in Tiburon they are taken in by three black sisters who are in the business of beekeeping. Lily ends up learning more about her mother and what really happened the day she was killed.
