From a window in their new house Bruno sees a large fenced in area where a lot of people are wearing what he believes to be striped pajamas. Out of boredom Bruno begins exploring the area by walking along the fence line. He meets a boy, his age, that sits on the other side of the fence. Seeing how hungry and thin the boy is Bruno sneaks him food across the fence. Wanting to help his new friend find his dad, Bruno crawls under the fence and disguises himself in the striped pajamas his friend found for him.
