Summary: Ponyboy and his two older brothers live in their own in a small town made up primarily of two teen gangs, the Greasers and the Socs. Ponyboy, who is a Greaser, likes things he isn't supposed to like, such as school and reading. But he goes with the Greaser crowd, who has become a family to him. Ponyboy and the Greasers feel like the outsiders of the town because they are the poor, lower class. He is loyal to his Greaser family until a greaser kills one the Socs in self-defense. Ponyboy begins to doubt that the Greasers are the only ones hurting in the worlds and he doubts the Greasers are really everything int he world.
